Technical yarns

Our comprehensive portfolio of technical yarns is used for a variety of applications. Most of our yarns are custom-made to meet the requirements of certain downstream processes and end uses. Textile yarns are often used as reinforcement materials, especially for reinforcing a variety of rubber compounds. In a textile/rubber composite structure, the textile yarn provides properties such as tensile strength and stiffness. For many applications, we coat our yarns with RFL dips (resorcinol formaldehyde latex) or alternatively, with RF-free dips to achieve the required level of adhesion between the specific type of rubber and the specific type of yarn.

Soft Cords

Soft cords are mainly used for tire, hose and air spring applications. For example, tire cord reinforces the tire structure and it is designed to maintain its functionality under varying conditions as well as over the full lifetime of a tire. Soft cords are characterized by soft haptics and low stiffness. Soft cords are mainly made from raw yarns based on polyamide, polyester, aramid, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and rayon. The raw yarn is twisted or threaded, and then RFL-dipped in water-based solutions to achieve sufficient adhesion to various rubber types. Demanding adhesion requirements may require an additional pre-dip.

Stiff Cords

Stiff cords are mainly used for V-belts, timing belts and other drive belt applications. Raw yarns of polyamide, polyester and aramid are mainly used for the production of stiff cords. After twisting, the thread is pre-dipped to generate stiffness or cut resistance. In this step, filaments of the single yarn are glued into the twisting system. The second impregnation step is a water-based RFL-dip to achieve sufficient adhesion between the cord and various rubber types. For heavy-duty applications, an additional overcoating (OC) step may be used, e.g. to withstand greater dynamic forces, to create additional adhesion or other functionalities.

Specialty Yarns

All ‘non-traditional’ yarns fall into this group. They are usually based on high-performance materials and/or on highly specialized production processes. Examples for raw materials are carbon, mineral fibers, ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), monofilaments and hybrids. Typical applications include cables, ropes, nets, geotextiles and medical applications. In addition, we offer a variety of treatment and coating options to produce engineered yarns with tailored functionality such as optimized friction, high flame-retardance as well as temperature- and UV-resistance. Our MEHLERPLAST® is a 2-component yarn with an elastic core and a cotton cover to make cord fabrics for tire manufacturers. We can also stiffen high-module filaments and fix them in tape form.

Untreated Yarns

Our untreated yarns are neither coated nor impregnated. They are simply twisted as yarn or thread on special threading machines. They are used to make products such as ropes, nets, geotextiles, hoses or cleaning threads.
